Topic: Bugs and Insects Vocabulary

Preparation:

Print the set (jar + bug pictures).
Cut out the bug cards along the dotted lines.
Keep the big picture of the jar as the “game board”.

How to Play:

Option 1: Teacher Calls the Bug

Place all bug cards face up on the table. The teacher calls out a word (e.g., “ladybug”). A child finds the correct card and “catches” the bug by placing it in the jar. Everyone says together: “The ladybug is in the jar!” or “Catch the ladybug!”

Option 2: Student as Caller

One child becomes the “teacher” and calls a bug word. Others race to find the card and put the bug in the jar.
Encourage full sentences:
Teacher: “Put the grasshopper in the jar.”
Student: “Here is a grasshopper!” Option

Option 3: Memory Match

Print two sets of the small bug cards (or one set of pictures plus word cards, if you have them). Mix the cards and place them face down. Children take turns flipping two cards, naming the bugs aloud. If they find a match, they keep the pair and place one in the jar. Continue until all bugs are matched.

Option 4: Flying vs. Crawling (extension idea)
Make two areas: “Can fly” and “Can’t fly.” Children sort the cards and say: “The bee can fly.” / “No! The worm can’t fly.”
Then choose one from each group to “catch” in the jar.
