How to use these ESL "Do" flashcard

  • Vocabulary presentation: Model each collocation and have students repeat in full sentences. Example: I do my homework after school. She does the dishes.

  • Do vs Make sorting: Mix in extra words (make a cake, make a decision) and have students sort into “Do” and “Make” piles to reduce common errors.

  • Question and negative practice: Do you do the laundry on Sundays? Does he do exercise every day? I don’t do business on weekends.

  • Routines and frequency: Add adverbs (always, usually, sometimes, never) and times to talk about habits: I usually do chores on Saturday morning.

  • TPR and charades: Students mime actions—do the dishes, do a puzzle—others guess using full sentences.

  • Pair work dialogues: Can you do me a favor? Sure. What do you need? Please do the dishes. No problem.

  • Grammar focus: auxiliary do/does for questions and negatives, third person singular spelling (does/doesn’t), imperative forms (Do your best!).

  • Writing and reading: Sentence frames, gap-fills, collocation match-ups, and picture-to-sentence writing.

  • Games: Memory matching, Go Fish with sentence prompts, Board Race (Do or Make?), Find Someone Who… (Who does exercise every day?).

  • Quick assessments: Exit tickets—choose the correct collocation, build a question with do/does, or order words to make a sentence.
