Core language
- Numbers 1–10 -
“What number is it?” “It’s …”
- “Can I feed the turtle?” “Yes, you can!”
How to play (Whole class: Feed the Turtle)
1) Show 3–4 leaves. Model: “This is number five.” Students repeat.
2) Call a number: “Find number four!” A student finds it, says “Four,” and feeds the turtle by placing the leaf near the turtle’s mouth or tummy.
3) Keep going until the turtle “eats” all the numbers.
4) Finish by counting together 1–10 (or 10–1).
Small‑group options
- Turtle Trail: Mix the leaves. Students turn over a leaf, say the number, and build a path 1→10 around the turtle.
- What’s Missing?: Place 1–10 in order. Students close eyes. Remove one leaf. They open eyes and say, “What’s missing? Seven!”
- Turtle Toss: Spread leaves on the floor. Students gently toss a beanbag onto a leaf, say the number, and collect it for their team.
- Number Hunt: Hide leaves around the room. Students find a leaf, say the number, and bring it to place in order.
Tips - Start with 1–5 for beginners; add more as they succeed.
- For extra speaking, ask, “What color is the leaf?” “How many leaves do we have?”
- Use a timer for a quick review round at the end of class.
